Castle-
The Castle by Kafka is relatable in a dreamlike way, that’s to say it feels like a lot of dreams I have.
The meeting of effort and futility, reason with absurdity comprise the tale. K, the land surveyor is represented by the sleeping wolf in the foreground. Arthur and Jeremiah, K’s assigned assistants who are more bothersome than helpful are represented by the wrens. Freida, K’s love interest, is depicted as a cat. All are arranged in front of a small schoolhouse, a family portrait of sorts.
Like most dreams, The Castle was unfinished, it ends abruptly and unresolved, it’s maddeningly appropriate.
