I was lucky to be brought up in a creative family, who always encouraged my creativity, I learnt how to sew at a young age and was introduced to a wide range of crafts.
I went to art college, graduated in Illustration. I decided that work to a brief, for somebody else, wasn’t how I wanted to express my creativity, so I rented a studio. at that time, 2004, I was focused mainly on painting. My work had a natural narrative style, and that when I first started making dolls, I made them to use as characters in my paintings.
When I had children, I continued with my doll making, and over the years, my process and style developed. More often now, I work with clay, epoxy, wire, textiles and paint to create art dolls as well as sculptural wall art. I love the variation that working with so many materials allows.
I approach my work in a playful, intuitive way. I might start with a theme, an experience or emotion, always making the face first, then sculpting and discovering each piece in the process.
