TURGITE (RAINBOW HEMATITE)
Coordinates: 34.66082°N, 92.44601°W
Location: Little Rock, road just before Fourch Creek bridge. The pit is just down the gravel road and it is accessible when the gate is open.
Property: Privately owned, currently being strip mined.
Materials: Turgite - secondary type deposit (brought in by water percolating through the clay deposit) and is part iron, part manganese. Clays - yellow, white, pink, purple. Pinks and purples probably due to the weathered turgite nearby.
