As an avid jazz fan, there is simply no better place to hear live music than New Orleans. A few years after Hurricane Katrina, I was hoping to be called off the wait list to get into the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival to showcase my art. But that was not to be with so many of their own artists from Louisiana and Mississippi needing the benefit of the show more than me. So while in the French Quarter, at Jackson Square and along Magazine Road, I caught some great photos of the iconic treasures of the region. Later, I turned those photos into more of a modern art interpretation and worked that collage of photos onto the umbrella into a pattern. I also did versions in purple and green too, keeping the Mardi Gras color palette in mind.
