An artist friend did me the great favor of posing in a variety of locations in Oak Bluffs, in spite of the cool winter breeze coming off the Sound. I had seen Sophie wearing this hat at a workshop not long before, and thought the hat with her lovely features would make for a great painting. When she stood within the decaying entry to the Island Theater, the combination of colors, light, and textures told me that this was exactly the right setting for Sophie's portrait.
