Great Falls at Dusk celebrates the Potomac River by emphasizing the "awful" power of the water as it conflicts with the rock formations in the National Park. Elizabeth Matthews lives and works in the Washington, DC metro area. Her studio is located in Reston, VA. She was born in Salt Lake City and taught art in the Utah school system for ten years after earning an M.Ed. in teaching and learning from Utah State University and a BFA from Brigham Young University in painting and drawing. Her work has recently been recognized with an “Honorable Mention” at The Art League in Alexandria, Virginia (2021); a “Painting of Exceptional Merit” artist award from Rehoboth Art League (2021); and painting awards at Utah Valley University’s Woodbury Gallery (2020) and the Springville Museum of Art (2017). She also received an FY21 EMGRR artist award from ArtsFairfax (2020); and solo exhibits at both the Bountiful Davis Art Center (2020) and Finch Lane Gallery (2019).
