Once Upon A Someday
Original Poem by Elaine Weiner-Reed (Ekphrastic)
She peeks out from under
Cloak …
Her cloak -
It’s invisible.
Silent
Shrouded in obscurity
Female. Amorphous.
Head uncovered, she breathes
For the first time
She
Hears her own voice.
Quiet.
Uncertain…
Words try to form… fighting to escape.
Her throat….
Vibrations in her throat
Building
Decloaking
She struggles to form her words, to channel her feelings…
UNSUNG CHORDS.
She hears them perfectly formed, resonant…
A ripple runs through her.
She shakes off the stifling ensnaring shroud of invisibility
Marveling at her form…
hands and body…
Hands
body …
create
She creates …
Life. She creates life.
Life’s blood and essence
Life affirming. Life-giving.
Her mouth moves in time
to the still-silent words streaming through her veins as she stands,
walks forward…
Gaining her place, her space in time.
Watching other Females apparate around her
progressively shedding their shrouds of silence … of non-existence.
Silent Chorus wraps the earth
Their shrouds become ribbons of color, connecting them
The Female awakens,
rises,
sings.
The Awakening has begun
Voices raised in songs yet to be heard.
Illustrious harmony to be reckoned with.
