This "Fifty Candles on Yellow” (Cinquante Bougies sur Jaune) is the 50th of a dedicated series loosely based on the fortification designs of the 17/18C French commander Maréchal Vauban. It was created with multiple masked layers of spray paints on an acrylic painted double canvas… a diptych. This abstract subject is again angular, or geometric, but whereas the idea could be interpreted as many guns or canons firing from three fortified walls of a citadel… my interpretation is of fifty candles on a layer cake in celebration of an important birthday or wedding anniversary. Whilst this one has a background of yellow, the previous diptych in the series was on a blue ground.
