Andrey Kozakov is a Cincinnati, OH-based artist, originally from Kyiv, whose work investigates aspects of time, space, and memory. His architectural paintings explore real or imagined scenes, encompassing dynamic city views, modern buildings, and remembered landscapes of the Ukrainian countryside. Growing up behind the Iron Curtain has had an influence on his work and you can see whiffs of that oppression still linger around the edges of his work— a distorted feature in a face here; a trick door there.  But most of all, Kozakov sees his art as an expression of his freedom—from the bonds of the past and the constraints of convention.

Both his father and grandfather were classically trained artists, and he first studied art with his father, in Kyiv. He began his own career as a professional artist soon after emigrating to the US in the mid-1990s. He has shown work in Miami, Florida, and with the Constella Festival, based in Cincinnati, OH. Recent solo shows have included Deep Water, at Cincinnati Art Underground; the Trading Room, at The Carnegie, Covington, KY; and Damavoi, at RÖSK RÝMI, in Akureyri, Iceland.
