1. Wairaka, 2026, acrylic and acrylic inks on prepared canvas, 1500 x 1600. $14,000.
This work was created with the Italian Renaissance painter Botticellli’s Venus in mind. This local version of the classical European theme of the goddess being wafted ashore on her shell has a range of uniquely Māori points of reference. In my preparatory painting I used the nautilus shell and made a reference to Tītahi’s famous prophesy regarding the arrival of tauiwi to the Tāmaki region. Here Wairaka stands inside the tiny shell of the tītiko which has been blown up exponentially. She holds a large kiwi in her arms. The maunga with which we associate this tupuna is represented to her right.
2. E Pōteretere Ana, 2026, acrylic and water-based inks on prepared canvas, 1500 x 1600. $10,000
These patterns left by printed tyre tread. The tyres used in this work came from Workshop 7 along Morningside Road. Similarly the heavily prepared surfaces used in the wooden panels came from pallets offered to the public Universal Plumbing 25 Morningside Road.
3. BOY [Ka mauru te ngē. Ka whakarongo ia ki te ngaru tūātea] 2026. acrylic and water-based inks on chalk prepared board, 980 x 1010. $4,500
A rangatahi listens to the sound of the ocean. The patterns throughout many of the paintings in Te Rongo involve different frequencies of noise. They, by contrast, resonate the sound of drifting and burnouts.
4. Manaaki Tītiko, 2026. acrylic on prepared board, 983 x 1010, $4000
Tītiko were eaten in large numbers. Because the Waitītiko was part of one of the largest collections of water in inland Tāmaki it is probably safe to assume that the mollusc was numerous on its banks. It would have been eaten in large numbers by tāngata whenua. Because kai is a key part of the way Māori demonstrate hospitality and generosity I have represented it as a symbol of manaakitanga.
5. Manene Waka, 2026, acrylic ink, charcoal and water-based inks on chalk prepared board, 983 x 1010, $4500
The vehicle depicted is a classic ’67 Ford Mustang. It is derived from a photo and encapsulates the idea of importation that I wanted to express. Manene is a reference to foreign arrival and there is much about the Boy Racer culture that relates to overseas culture that is valorised by rangatahi in Aotearoa.
6. Tokaroa, 2026, acrylic on prepared canvas, 900 x 1210. $3000
Early research for the show in December 2025 involved looking insects, flora and fauna that one finds in the kinds of marshland environments that characterised the Ōwairaka rohe. Tokaroa is the rock causeway that extends out from the mouth of the Waitītiko river as it empties into the Waitematā

8. Te Ara Tītiko II, 2026, acrylic inks on prepared paper, 700 x 800, framed with conservation glass. $2,000
A reference to the sediment trail left by the tītiko after which the local Waitītiko stream is named.

11. Te Kapowai, 2026, acrylic inks and water based printing inks on prepared board. $1700
Early research for the show in December 2025 involved looking insects, flora and fauna that one finds in the kinds of marshland environments that characterised the Ōwairaka rohe. Te kapowai is the name our ancestors used to describe the giant native dragonfly. When it spreads its wings out it is resting.
12. V, ‘Flows to the Sea’, 2026, frottage involving water valve cover Morningside Road and assorted local native plants and object, graphite pencil on cotton paper, 645 x 500. Image available on ArtworkArchive site – see entry 14 below. Unframed. $1500
Alongside Morningside Road I made frottages of the surfaces that local residents walk over. The cast iron covers that mask to some extent the communication cables and the waterway pipes that channel the waters that once collected and flowed into the puna ‘springs’ and which covered ngā repo ‘marshlands’ that once festooned the local Morningside / Ōwairaka / Sandringham / Mt Eden area.

14. Wairaka, 2026, acrylic inks on prepared paper, framed with conservation glass. Image not currently in show but available on Artwork Archive site. $2,000 https://www.artworkarchive.com/profile/dr-rangihiroa-panoho
This painting was the basis for the large scale work on canvas in Te RONGO. The pattern forming the name on the right refers to unique meetinghouse designs from Wairaka’s Mataatua rohe
