Dorit Feldman, etched brass plate, 2017
This work of art commemorate one hundred years since the formative
victorious battle fought on October 31, 1917, during which the British forces,
in collaboration with the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC),
conquered Beer Sheba.
The brass plate features a rare historic map of the battle, photo-chemically
etched onto it, outlining the disposition of British and ANZAC forces at 13:05.
Marked by red ink arrows and other symbols drawn by hand on the original
map, which was printed by the Survey of Egypt (in October 1917), the route
was cut by laser through the brass plate. The round image integrated in the
map was extracted from a rare German aerial photograph (Squadron 300) of
the city of Beer Sheba from that time, accentuating the unique architectural
and environmental qualities of the place.

אובייקט אמנותי זה נוצר עבור חגיגות המאה לאירוע הקרב המכונן, שהתרחש
בארץ ישראל ב-31 באוקטובר 1917 והוכתר בהצלחה. במהלך הקרב כבשו הכוחות
הבריטיים, בשיתוף פעולה עם כוחות אנז"ק האוסטרליים והניו זילנדיים, את העיר
באר שבע.
על לוחית הפליז נראית מפה היסטורית מקורית של מתווה הקרב, שבה מסומן מיקום
מערכי הכוחות הבריטיים וכוחות אנז"ק בשעה 13:05. המפה הוטבעה באמצעות
טכניקה של צריבה פוטו-כימית. המתווה ומסלולי הקרב, שסומנו בדיו אדומה באמצעות
חִ צים וסימנים נוספים על גבי המפה המקורית, שהודפסה עבור מרכז המיפוי המצרי
באוקטובר 1917, עוּבדו לחיתוכי לייזר, שניתן לראותם מבעד למתכת הפליז. הדימוי
העגול, המשולב במפה, נלקח מתצלום אוויר גרמני נדיר (טייסת 300) של העיר באר
שבע מאותו זמן, ובו מודגשות איכויותיו האדריכליות והסביבתיות של המקום.
