Rosemarie Beck (Rosemarie Beck Foundation)
Rosemarie Beck (1923 - 2003) emerged in the mid-50s as a figurative painter; she was a beloved teacher and mentor, and a gifted artist.
Message1956 was the year that Beck and her husband, Robert Phelps, discovered and became enthralled by Astrology. This became the theme of her first major Series, which focused on iconography relating to the astrological houses and planets, in particular Venus, Mercury, Neptune and the Sun and Moon. "Astrology seems, so far, only to confirm what one already knows and therefore our life which we cannot escape, has to be displaced by the thing we make." (Rosemarie Beck, Journal, April 13, 1956)
