Rosemarie Beck (Rosemarie Beck Foundation)
Rosemarie Beck (1923 - 2003) emerged in the mid-50s as a figurative painter; she was a beloved teacher and mentor, and a gifted artist.
Messagephoto taken by Cary Whittier
Hieratic yet fluid, light juxtaposed with dark, Beck’s brilliant pairing of the chilly goddess of the hunt with the voluptuous goddess of love is both mysterious and densely detailed. Two small statuettes of Greek goddesses - highly disparate in both character and coloration - loom large, dominating the foreground of this painting, one of the last that the artist finished before her death the following year.
