This piece is based on one of my favorite songs by HIllsong United, called Oceans.
You call me out upon the waters, the great unknown where feet may fail; And there I find You in the mystery in oceans deep, my faith will stand, I will call upon Your name and keep my eyes above the waves. When oceans rise my soul will rest in your embrace for I am Yours and You are mine; Your grace abounds in deepest waters, your sovereign hand will be my guide; Where feet may fail and fear surrounds me you've never failed and you won't start now.
Spirit lead me where my trust is without borders let me walk upon the waters wherever You would call me. Take me deeper than my feet could ever wander and my faith will be made stronger in the presence of my Savior
The colors of the mineral specimens found within the earth are the same colors found within the ocean. Most of the shells I picked up on the Texas coast, others are from islands I've traveled. I found the barnacles washed up on the beach after Hurricane Harvey in Port Aransas. The Lightening Welks are the Texas State shell I've found around Rockport. The wood, also from the Rockport area, is weathered Mangrove and on one, oyster shells have grown. The large specimen in the middle is a beautiful mix of minerals from Greece of malachite, azurite and chrysocolla. The bright cobalt blue cluster is a specimen called canvasite. Other specimens include apophyllite, aragonite, chrysocolla, pearls, apatite, peacock copper (bonite), shells, abalone, oyster, coral, ruby in fuschite, mimetite, turquoise, amazonite, a sea urchin and clam fossil. I coiled copper and sterling silver and used various types of glass and stone smalti, rods and old bubbled slag glass.
