In this piece, a zebra is depicted running across an open plain, with a background composed of blue and red hues. Chang Yu applied a layer of varnish to the canvas, enhancing the brightness of the blue background. The running zebra appears diminutive amidst the vast wilderness. Drawing from the prevalent Expressionist movement in Germany at the time, which often used animal subjects to represent the conflicting forces of nature, Chang Yu employed the arrangement of animals in his composition to achieve a "small to large" effect, showcasing the infinite possibilities of space. The expansive swathes of color, with subtle variations in layers, convey both a primal vitality and a sense of loneliness in the open space
