In my art, I explore the contrast between Industrial Revolution-era
metal wire and ancient clay. The mechanization of metal mesh
production highlights the Industrial Revolution's impact on
traditional craftsmanship. I combine these seemingly unrelated
materials, enclosing metal wire within clay, questioning whether an
ancient material can contain its potential replacement. Throughout
experimentation, I've grappled with the challenge of balancing high firing temperatures and controlling structural integrity. This fusion
sometimes collapses due to minimal temperature differences. This
work metaphorically reflects the enduring effects of the Industrial
Revolution on our lives, raising questions about our ability to control
our environment and the resilience of materials in shaping our
narrative.
