I love a grey day, and it showcased this boat beautifully. This boat is local to Mystic and can be seen on occasion at the Seaport. (insert the type of boat here-right now I am not sure and want to get the info this june)
This painting began as a Plein Aire sketch created during the June Plein Aire Painters of the Maritime museum paint out. I loved it so did not turn it in, bringing it home to create a studio painting, larger, more detailed and more mysterious.
“The boat belongs to Noah Thomas. Her name is “Bylgya” it means “Billow” daughter of Norse sea god.
She was built south of Copenhagen about 30 years ago. The type is known as a “Faering”. Her previous owner was a Cellist with the NY Metropolitan Opera”.
