In this monumental textured work, Dipayan Ghosh reimagines Mumbai as a living mandala — an intricate organism of endurance, motion, and light. The concentric circles represent the layered anatomy of the city. The calm blue of the Arabian Sea is at its heart, serene yet unceasing. Around it spiral the dense, colourful mosaics of modest dwellings — reds, yellows, and ochres symbolising countless dreams. Beyond them rise skyscrapers, towers of ambition and privilege, their rhythm cutting upward like prayers to progress. Distinct worlds orbiting one another in uneasy harmony.
Cutting through this geometry, a sweeping flyover arcs across the canvas like a steel lifeline — binding disparate realities, carrying the weight of millions of stories.
Every fragment, colour, and contour becomes a metaphor for Mumbai’s paradox — chaos sculpted into rhythm, fragility transformed into strength. Mandala of the Metropolis celebrates not just a city, but the indomitable human pulse that keeps it forever alive.
