"Wave after wave we are tossed by the seas of life only to be refined into who we were truly created to be."
Dionne White - quote
Abstract Ocean Study #2
This piece is one of 5 ( 4"x6" ) Abstract Ocean Study works on paper. Observations made of the Atlantic Ocean on Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach in South Carolina. Taking into consideration the atmospheric conditions on different days and recording those in my journal and transferring that to my canvas - light, wind, motion, and color were all observed.
I particularly love the deeply saturated hard edges, as well as the gold representing the refining done by the sand and tumbling waves. This is a wet into wet ink technique, allowing it to sit and soak into the paper creating a stain that gives off a stained glass effect. While still quite saturated, I drop the gold in by droppers and manually move the paper to get the gold particles to separate a bit and then move to different areas. As the paper begins to dry I take a tool and score the paper in order to create visual texture then this allows the ink and gold to move into new areas settling there. It resembles the trails and traces left behind by ocean debris and tracks from beachcombers.
These bursts of motion and color are sure to stir the depths of the soul. Collect in pairs to make a beautiful and stunning coastal or abstract display! Unframed. Buyer pays to ship.
