Ancestral Totem is a sculptural reflection of the rich and complex heritage that shapes my identity. This piece is a tribute to the blend of Black, African, West Indian, and South Asian cultures that flow through my lineage, each speaking to me in their own unique way. Through this work, I aim to honor the voices of my ancestors, who guide me across continents, histories, and traditions, merging into a singular yet multifaceted expression of identity.
The form of the totem captures the layered complexity of cultural blending, with each element representing different facets of my heritage—each unique but intertwined. By repurposing materials, I not only celebrate the resilience and adaptability of my ancestors but also acknowledge the importance of sustainability and honoring the Earth, which connects us all.
