This multilayered abstract painting is the first piece from the studio after moving from Chicago to my new home in Saint Paul MN. "Welcome" is my note-to-self about new possibilities.
But three days after arriving, a fire devastated the condo tower we just moved into. Fortunately not affecting my unit, but there was extensive fire damage to many others as well as all the common areas of the building. Then a week later, the horrible murder of George Floyd happened and was broadcast worldwide. The ensuing overflow of anger and legitimate protest also allowed cover for some others who were intent on vandalism and looting. Fires engulfed many businesses (see: Central Camera Company in Chicago) and so became reflected in this piece as well.
