Shaped panels sometimes suggest a similarity with the political borders shown on maps. Here, there is a hint of the Arkansas map which has its distinguishing two "bites" removed from opposite corners - one by Missouri, the other by Texas. Though it's the birth-state of the artist, his memory of it is murky, as is this painting.
