Inspired by the flora and fauna of the Hawaiian Islands, “Flying Fish” is about motion, movement, and the connectedness of life; displayed in an arrangement of moving sea creatures that from afar form the image of a single larger fish.

When people walk by, the varying depths create the effect that the fish are in motion.

A departure from the purely abstract forms of my prior work, this project started as a commission for the long entryway of a residential home in Tucson, Az.

When asking the client about their aesthetic preferences, I learned they had just come back from a trip to Hawaii and were amazed by the plants and sea life they saw. What began as a simple sketch soon evolved into an experiment in working with brand new materials and process.
