The Vault: Miki Nishida Goerdt - Remembering to Heal

On Site Exhibition
Under the spotlights by Miki Nishida Goerdt Image: Depending on which part of me gets the spotlight, others’ perceptions of who I am change. This self-portrait shows multiple overlapping spotlights, each exposing different degrees of the background. But who I am does not change. I also intentionally change the ways I act based on where I am and whom I am with, but I do so without changing who I am. A fuller understanding of both Japanese and American cultures led me to a deeper understanding of myself. When I understood myself better within each cultural context, I became more adaptable.
