Artist Statement:
“Most people find comfort in thinking that what they have been taught about human existence is absolute and should never be questioned. I find comfort in questioning everything there is, was and ever will be. Through my use of spray paint, newspaper and plastic bags, I create unique textures and realities, guiding your mind to the possibility of what could be.”
Artist Bio:
Markus Fussell is a self-taught spray paint artist from Norfolk,VA.
While also serving as a therapeutic and healing way to release tension, the most important aspect of art to Markus is how it challenges what we know, and what we have been taught. He has been painting on the streets and at live events since 2007. Because he only uses spray paint he is able to paint some pieces in a very short time, sometimes in just minutes. Although his roots are planted in 80s street art and early Science Fiction, he also loves to challenge the existence of human life itself.
Since 2015, Markus runs the HiVE Art Collective in the Railroad District, and other areas in Norfolk. He was featured on the cover of two different independent Scifi Novels, as well as being one of the featured artists in a worldwide trading card set called “Cosmic,” by the UpperDeck Company.
