The Sun, the Moon, and the Stars by Pamela Hart Image: This piece is part of my Daughter Warrior series. The Dogon people of Mali have a knowledge of the stars that is centuries old and unexplainable in the the modern world. This piece is meant to honor that knowledge which precedes modern scientific understanding.

Artist Statement:

"My Daughter Warriors series is dedicated to my daughters, whose ancestry can be traced to Mali, in Africa. I hope these pieces arm my daughters with a knowledge of Mali’s history and it’s importance. My vessels echo the shapes of gourds and baskets with designs taken from the traditions of ethnic groups of Mali. I use tripod bases because of their ancient and sturdy forms. I love that each vessel takes on personality when the clay is manipulated. The pieces are armed with shields that are reminders of the warrior and reflect ethnic inspiration."
