Artist Statement:
"I have been working on a body of work involving the depiction of the American West, through portraiture and figurative paintings. I strive to bring awareness to a forgotten or lost way of life, their untold stories, and traditions. I work with models dressed in authentic historical regalia, dating 1700-1800's.
The medium in which I choose is intentional. Pastels are a dry medium and obtaining purity of pigment, often in the form of, powder, stick and pencil. I do not use brushes for application or blending, only my fingers and hands to blend and apply.
The working surface I choose is also intentional. I use insulation board for its durability, limitless size options, weightlessness and ease of purchase at your local home improvement store.
I have discovered a clear coating that I apply to the surface of my paintings as a protective barrier, eliminating the traditional usage of glass."
