- February 10, 2024 - March 09, 2024
Sponsored by Art & Annie Sandler and Michael & Wendy Holley.
Oil V. Water is a nationally juried exhibition of oil and watercolor paintings. We want our patrons to experience and compare the beautiful differences between these two paint mediums!
All 2D and 3D artwork in this exhibition are created with either Oil or Watercolor paint in at least 85% of its composition.
This is a nationally juried exhibition and was co-curated by exhibition juror, Corinne Lilyard-Mitchell, and d'Art Center Gallery Director, Amanda Bradley.
Corinne Lilyard-Mitchell is a prolific Virginia Beach-based artist who works mainly in oil, acrylic, and drawing media. As an award-winning, regionally-recognized painter, she focuses on still-life and portraiture. Several of her works are represented in Tidewater Community College’s (TCC) permanent art collection; her portrait commissions can be found at TCC, Old Dominion University, Norfolk State University, and the Norfolk Court System.
Corinne earned her BFA from Norfolk State University and her MFA from the ODU/NSU Joint Graduate Program. Over her 30-year career at TCC, she taught Fundamentals of Design, Painting, and Drawing. Her career also included the interim directorship of TCC’s Visual Arts Center for three years.
Since her retirement as a Professor of Art, Corinne continues to exhibit her work. She also teaches a variety of art classes, including Color Theory, Beginning Oil Painting, and Introduction to Drawing the Portrait, at local art centers. Private group lessons and workshops are held at Corinne’s studio in Virginia Beach.
