Multifarious is an open medium juried exhibition of original and unique 2D and 3D abstract artworks. The artwork in multifarious is a departure from reality in imagery depictions. All work in this exhibition is abstract, non-figurative, non-objective artwork, AND/OR non-representational in composition.
This is a juried exhibition, and was co-curated by Gallery Manager and Center Curator, Amanda Bradley, and exhibition juror Rick Nickel.
The call reached 33 states. 148 artists submitted for a total of 558 submissions. The juror and and gallery manager selected 67 pieces from 58 artists from 19 states!
Richard Nickel is an artist, educator, writer, and sits on the Studio Potter advisory board. He has exhibited both nationally and internationally. He has been published in several books on contemporary ceramics and in art journals. As a designer, Nickel has created posters for Crafted Indie Arts and Crafts Market, a cover illustration for Studio Potter, ceramic awards for Skutt Kilns, illustrations for Alt Daily, and animations for WHRO HealthBeat. As a ceramic sculptor, he has pieces in numerous private collections. Nickel has designed and painted murals in Rochester, New York; Niagara Falls, New York; Norfolk, Virginia; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. He started at ODU in 2002 as the Art Education Program Director and Ceramics Program Director.
