The infamous Canal Turn, both the eighth and the 24th fence of the English Grand National, is depicted in this Skeaping painting. åÊThe fence, one of the better known in the race, is infamous because of the almost ninety degree left hand turn that must be made after clearing it. åÊIt is not uncommon for jockeys to fall or lose their stirrups at this point of the course. åÊIn many years the Canal Turn has been the scene of incidents that have heavily influenced the outcome of the Grand National, which is the most valuable steeplechase in Europe.
