The rooster is an unofficial symbol of the French nation. åÊKnown as the Gallic rooster, or Chanteclair colloquially, its use was particularly popular during the Third French Republic, which lasted from 1870 to 1940. åÊPerhaps this is why the French Percheron Equestrian Society gave this bronze as a grand prize at the 1920 Chicago International Exhibition.
