Dasgupta has been a prominent fixture of the Indian art scene for about 4 decades now. Well known for his dramatic and meticulous landscapes, he has spent almost his entire career painting scenes of the holy city, Varanasi. Inspired by the Ganges running past meditating ascetics and a profusion of temples spilling over its banks. He studied first at the Delhi Polytechnic, and later in Naples, Italy. He has held over fifty solo showings of his work so far, all over India as well as in countries like Germany, Denmark, Malta, Nepal and Italy.
