The plate was etched and select areas were rocked for the mezzotint process. . Select color was used in the printing of the folded arms. I chose the back of an old copperplate that was scratched to give scars to the figure of Homero and energy to the mass of butterfiles in its core. The mezzotint and etching titled “Requiem for Homero” is in honor of Homero Gomez Gonzalez, manager of Mexico’s El Rosario monarch butterfly sanctuary who was apparently murdered for his activism in helping preserve the trees that Monarchs thrive in. He along with Raul Hernandez Romero (also murdered) worked to prevent development of the land and removal of the trees so central to the monarch’s survival.
