Denver-based photographer Gary Lynch (1953-2005) focused on the human figure exploring issues of identity, the psychological aspects of communication and the function of photography in our contemporary paradigm of technology. He produced close-ups of faces and hands using shallow depth of field, dramatic lighting, and a focus on detail. In the series “Identities,” Lynch plays with slivers of light on an otherwise dark face. Lynch earned an MFA in photography at the University of Denver in 1995, and went on to teach at various institutions throughout Denver. His art was shown at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center (CPAC), and he earned multiple grants to continue his work through the organization.
