Sociological photography
The photographs of Pavel Štecha illustrate reports based on sociological research in cities or larger localities (e.g. Ostrava – Přívoz 1981, Břeclav District 1983). These are typically impromptu snapshots, aptly documenting the findings of the sociological reports. They put forward in concrete terms the findings, theses and issues at hand, illuminating the subject of the research papers themselves.
Pavel Stecha attended the Film Faculty of the Academy of Music Arts (FAMU) in Prague (now the Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts) 1967 to 1971. Where then he worked in 1977 as senior lecturer at FAMU in Prague; he had been an assistant lecturer there in 1975.
Pavel Stecha previously worked as a freelance photographer (1971-1974). He was the founder of the Photographic Laboratory at UMPRUM. He is also the author of several books: for instance, the amazing "Prague - its Alleyways and Passages" is a portrait of the secrete world, quite dissimilar to ours.
