Ľubo Stacho was born in 1953 in Handlová, Czechoslovakia. He graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering at the Slovak University of Tecnology in Bratislava (1976) and the Department of Photography at FAMU in Prague (prof. Ján Šmok 1984). In 1990 he introduced the photography study program into the Bratislava Academy of Fine Arts and Design curriculum and currently holds a position of the Head of the Studio Laboratory of Photography Department. In 1995, he was qualified as associate professor at FAMU, appointed as a full professor in 2010.
He is the winner of several awards, including the Tokyo International Photobiennale, Metropolitan Museum of Photography, Tokyo (1995), 1st Prize at the UNESCO World Heritage Fund Contest (1993). He has held over 70 solo exhibitions so far, and participated in more than 300 collective exhibitions e. g. Pittsburgh Mattress Factory 1995, Biennale Tokyo 1995, FotoFest Houston 1996, Photogallery Vienna 1997, Ljubljana 1998 (e. g.: Youtfull Medium I. a II., Slovakia etc.)
