The central figure is the "golden deer" or Roebuck or (male species of deer) that grow antlers used to defend themselves against other male deer in the territory. I saw one on a routine walk in nature at Ojibway park. The painting contains other faces when viewed upside down - this was another aspect of the overall story of an ongoing battle between beasts and birds on the land. At that time I was staying in Chatham-Kent region of Ontario, at my aunts farmland and practicing therapeutic painting. I was reading works by Rudolf Steiner which inspired a new perspective about the nature of farm ecology and the presence of the elemental realm. The use of plant medicines at that time opened up my ability to see forms in the trees, connect with the nature spirits and receive healing through the revelations I was exposing in the story of these characters.
