Imagine: Tent City
- Historic photos on ceramic sculpture
- Todd Stands
Artist Todd Stands is the creator of Imagine: Tent City installed in 2009 at the Glorietta Bay Promenade at 1715 Strand Way.
The artist created a unique outdoor public art piece that memorializes a time when vacationers on a budget traveled to Coronado to stay at Tent City.
Historic photographs are transferred onto glazed tiles and arranged mosaic-style on a structure which is situated to imagine what you would have seen nearly 100 years earlier if you stood on the promenade.
If you are looking south at the art piece you will view images of when Tent City stood on this property. If you are on the northern side, you would have a view of Tent City as it would have appeared in the early 20th Century.
Photographs for the piece came from the collections of the Coronado Historical Association, The Hotel del Coronado, and the San Diego Historical Association.
