Artist: Silvestre Miranda
Born in the city of Tijuana, B.C., Silvestre Miranda Zárate began his career as an artist at an early age in middle school art class 1984-1985, where he began using drawing techniques and acrylic painting.
From 1988 to 1993 he studied Graphic Design at the Iberoamericana del Noroeste University, Tijuana campus, where he expanded his knowledge in drawing techniques, oil painting, among others, as well as traditional printing such as engraving and screen printing and general Art History.
The years following his studies were focused on graphic design.
In 1999 he participated in the Call for Visual Artists of Baja California, his first time in an art exhibition in Mexicali B.C. and in 2000 he competed in the annual call for artists celebrating the Vendimia Event presented by the L.A. CETTO winery.
Since 2008 he participates in Art Festivals such as Entijuanarte, Rosarito Art Fest (2013-2019), Fusionarte (2013-2018), Festiarte (2014-2022).
His most outstanding individual art exhibitions have been in the Baja California Cultural Institute Tijuana, Casa de la Cultura de Tijuana, Casa de Cultura Playas de Tijuana and the San Antonio de los Buenos cultural center, Distrito Diez gallery and in various Universities of Tijuana such as IBERO, UABC, IPN, UTT and in the Casa del Túnel Arts Center, as well as the Women's Institute (IMMUJER). As a member of NFIA (National Foundation of Independent Artists), he has exhibited in several cities in Mexico such as Tijuana, Tecate, Guadalajara and Mexico City.
He participated in the XX Biennial of Plastic Artists of BC in 2013, held at the State Art Center (CEART) in Mexicali B.C. as well as in the Colectivo Centenario Recargado in 2019, exhibiting at the Art Centers in Tijuana and Rosarito. (CEART)
He has exhibited in the USA at the Gracey Lane Gallery in Fallbrook, Ca in 2021 and 2022.
Recently from 2020 to 2022 he participated in art auctions as an ambassador of Wildcoast Costa Salvaje to raise funds for the conservation of national and international coasts, by donating works of art.
He currently teaches visual arts at Casa de Cultura San Antonio de los Buenos and screen printing at Casa de Cultura de Tijuana. He also teaches occasional art workshops at Universidad Iberoamericana. He currently participates in art programs for migrant children in the city of Tijuana, through the Ministry of Culture of Mexico, in a national program called Semilleros, where he teaches Introduction to the plastic visual arts.
Silvestre Miranda constantly experiments with the development of new forms of expression, painting everyday subjects such as the urban landscape. Using new technologies, such as digital images, he captures in a traditional way in oil on canvas. His most recent works combine abstraction with realism. Always constant, he develops colorful pieces of portraits and landscapes distorted as if they were transformed into water with his favorite techniques oil and acrylic and other mixed mediums.
