I use heavy cardstock cutouts of birds and glue them one-by-one onto the painting to create the flock. The birds have a slight relief from the canvas adding depth and texture. With angular lighting, the birds cast shadows, truly activating the painting and bringing the flock to life as if it could fly off the canvas. This piece has 288 birds glued onto the canvas.
