  • Artist: Otto Martín Moreno (Mexico City, b. 2000)

Graduated with honors from the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, from an early age, Otto was drawn to the urban aesthetic of Mexico City, which is constantly reorganizing, restructuring and reforming. Thus, the landscape itself is the one that propels his ideas of repetition and organization of solid pieces into components that make up an entire sculptural composition.

Otto works with three-dimensional modeling and rendering programs to organize abstract shapes. The software allows him to create bodies of work through digital representation, which makes him think about the intrinsic relationship that exists with time in a timeless space, such as that of digital platforms. For Otto, time is a crucial concept in his work as a graphic key to evoke digital waiting. He is fascinated by the interaction that exists between industrial materials and digital construction.

Innovation as part of his investigative process is essential in his practice, as he has previously said “nothing innovative happens by staying between the boundaries of safety.” Through his creative practice, he considers himself primarily a sculptor. In recent years, he has worked with three-dimensional compositions of time, space and geometry, showing interest in contemporary architecture, especially with those pieces that involve industrial processes and materials.
