H.C. Westerman (1922-1981) x
H. C. Westermann was an artist best-known for his folkloric woodcuts, though he also made carved wood sculptures, mixed-media assemblages, and prints. He was born in Los Angeles, CA, studied at the Art Institute of Chicago (IL), and served in the Marine Corps during World War II and the Korean War, which was often reflected in his work. His work has been shown extensively in group and solo exhibitions, including the Whitney Museum of American Art (NY), Museum of Contemporary Art (Chicago, IL), Camden Arts Center (London, England), Ecole National Superiereure des Beaux-Arts (Paris, France), and the Renwick Gallery, National Museum of American Art (Washington, DC), as well as published in several books and periodicals.
