- Stained/leaded glass window
Location: Johnson Room, J. Eugene Smith Library
Untitled (1998), a unique stained glass architectural window, rests in the existing window frames of the north-facing wall of the library’s Johnson conference room. Wilson’s glass works of art enhance the architecture of the building and this piece specifically brings soft color and light from a window that receives no direct sunlight. The use of bevels, lenses, and unusual glass components such as white opal, blue opaline, blue/black spotted glass, and black iridized (coated with the precious metal, iridium), help reflect light coming from the west facing windows. This creates unusual effects as the sunlight moves through the day and produces ever-changing, fresh patterns. The design of the window emphasizes geometric forms, congruent with Art Deco styles, and suggests computerized circuitry grids and push button dots, placing it in direct dialogue with the technologically advanced library. Wilson assembled Untitled in the traditional method of stained glass window-making.
