In the summer of 1985, Stromeyer completed Cherry Float for Manchester Community College under the CT Percent for the Arts Program. It is a 6 ton, 14-foot-tall mass, made from eight sections of steel, and covered in red enamel paint. Stromeyer created the beams separately in his Cold Hollow Iron Works Studio. The sculpture was then bolted together, upon installation, and secured with underground concrete footing. The structure is dynamic from all angles, and conveys a sense of both playfulness and elegance. It can also be walked under and interacted with, as light, heat, and air movement are all altered in the sculpture’s space.
