Inspired by nature and story, referencing the mystery and wonder of the sky and sea, Tracie Cheng's paintings are a personal study on life’s nuances and complexities. Through paint and lines, subtly asking unanswerable questions, she seeks to offer images of peace and solace while encouraging viewers to trade in disbelief for the gift of faith.

Sometimes it's hard to reconcile the many parts of our identities in different roles and seasons of life; at times we can feel disparate or convoluted, and yet we are one person. Whether it's how parenthood integrates with our choice of career, or how the heritage we come from relates to or has friction with the culture we are currently living in, and how our perception of these change as our life changes. Like a patchwork quilt, Tracie has been exploring different color combinations and shapes/textures coming together, not always feeling related or cohesive. And yet with a focus on what's captured within the lines, background blurred, a lovely and unified image comes forward, reminding us that we are beautifully whole and layered beings.
