Artist: Werner Pfeiffer (German, b. 1937)
Werner Pfeiffer is a sculptor, printmaker, painter, and installation artist who makes book-objects and book-related art. Born in Stuttgart, Germany, he attended the Akademie der Bildenden Kunste (State Academy of Fine Arts and Design), where he trained as a fine artist specializing in book arts. He immigrated to New York in 1961, and continued his studies at the Pratt Institute, where he later taught as an art professor, living in Cornwall Bridge, CT. Pfeiffer has exhibited nationally and internationally, with more than 25 solo exhibitions, and his work is included in the collections of the Delaware Art Museum (DE), The Museum of Modern Art (NY), the Library of Congress (Washington, DC), the National Museum (Stockholm, Sweden), and the Rockefeller Foundation (NY), among others.
1% of the cost of construction for publicly accessible CT state buildings is set aside for the Art in Public Spaces Program and CT Artist Collection.
