Peter Waite travels the world creating large-scale paintings that depict the built environment, specifically focusing on settings of “public sentiment or ideological concern.” Born in North Adams, MA, Waite earned his BFA from the Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford (CT), and MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago (IL), and now lives in Glastonbury, CT. His work has been included in many group and solo exhibitions, and is held in multiple museum collections, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), the Wadsworth Antheneum (Hartford, CT), NASA (Washington, DC), The Benton Museum, the University of Connecticut (Storrs, CT), and the Henry Art Gallery (Seattle, WA). Waite is also the recipient of three Connecticut State Office of the Arts grants, a Pollock-Krasner Fellowship, a Guggenheim Fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts grant.
1% of the cost of construction for publicly accessible CT state buildings is set aside for the Art in Public Spaces Program and CT Artist Collection.
