Missy Stevens is a fiber artist who uses a punch needle embroidery technique to combine her love of textiles with the flow of painting, resulting in her “thread paintings.” She was born in Glen Ridge, NJ, earned her Bachelor of Applied Arts degree in the Program of Artisanry from Boston University (MA), and currently lives in Washington, CT. Her work has been included in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts (Boston, MA), Museum of Arts and Design (NY), and Renwick Gallery, National Museum of American Art, Smithsonian Institution (Washington, DC), as well as shown in a multitude of group and solo exhibitions across the United States. Stevens is also the recipient of a Connecticut State Office of the Arts Individual Artist grant and the Craftsmen's Choice Award from Smithsonian Craft Show in 2001 (Washington, DC).
1% of the cost of construction for publicly accessible CT state buildings is set aside for the Art in Public Spaces Program and CT Artist Collection.
