Helena Hernmarck is a textile artist and weaver who specializes in large-scale public tapestries. Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Hernmarck studied at the University College of Arts, Crafts & Design (Stockholm, Sweden), then lived in Canada for almost a decade before moving to the United States in 1975, and she now lives in Connecticut. She received numerous corporate commissions, as well as showed her work in multiple group and solo exhibitions, including the American Swedish Historical Museum (Philadelphia, PA), Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (NY), Prins Eugens Waldemarsudde Museum (Stockholm, Sweden), Zornsamlingarna (Mora, Sweden), "The 2nd, 3rd and 4th International Tapestry Biennales,” Musee Cantonal des Beaux-Arts (Lausanne, Switzerland), “The Craftsman's Art,” Victoria & Albert Museum (London, England), and "Craft Today: The Poetry of the Physical,” American Craft Museum (NY). Hernmarck has also been awarded the American Institute of Architects Craftsmanship Medal, Connecticut State Office of the Arts, Governor’s Arts Award, and inducted into the American Craft Council, College of Fellows, among other honors and awards.
