Artist: Antonio Frasconi (1919-2013)
Antonio Frasconi was an artist known for his exceptional woodcuts. He was raised in Uruguay, and immigrated to the United States in 1945 to study at the Art Students League in New York, and also lived in California and Norwalk, CT, later in his life. Frasconi rejected formal art education, preferring his art to be influenced by and comment on social issues. His work is included in the Museum of Modern Art (NY), Fine Arts Museum of San Francisco (CA), the Brooklyn Museum (NY), the Metropolitan Museum of Art (NY), the New York Public Library, the National Gallery of Art (Washington, DC), and the Smithsonian (Washington, DC).
1% of the cost of construction for publicly accessible CT state buildings is set aside for the Art in Public Spaces Program and CT Artist Collection.
